From Tuesday the third to Thursday the fifth, there was the second MAP testing of the year. Each year, there are three map tests for students: Math, Reading, and Language. The tests are for grades first through 10th. MAP tests show students' improvement and what they need to learn. Teachers use MAP testing scores to know what to teach their students, and the U.S. uses them to evaluate how well the schools are doing.
On Tuesday, the first day of MAP testing, the test was on reading. Liahona and Dawson said the reading was their favorite test, but it was Rebekah's least favorite.
Then on the next day, Wednesday, the test was on math. On this test, there were equal opinions of who thought it was the worst test and who thought it was the best test. Maycie and Benjamin liked the math test the most. Dawson and Joan thought that math was the worst test. Dawson explained, “Math, yeah, it's a little bit easy… but it is still math.”
The last day of MAP testing was the language test. Rebekah and Joan liked math the best. Rebekah said, “Language because I can go through it faster,” and Joan said, “Language because it was the most easy.” Language was also many middle school students’ least favorite test, like Benjamin, Liahona, and Maycie.
For the second MAP testing of the year, there was a lot of progress in people's scores. The middle school students, Maycie, Benjamin, and Liahona, gave their results. Maycie said, “I went down on most but I did well on my math test but not my language test.” Benjamin said, “I improved in two reading and math.” Liahona said, sadly, “No, not in any of them.”
Rebekah, Joan, and Dawson Nelson shared their improvement for the high school students. Rebekah said, “I improved in my math, stayed the same in my language, and went down in reading.” Joan added how she did, saying, “The first test I went up one point, on mysecond one I went down at least five, and then yesterday I went down two.” Lastly, Dawson Nelson added, “The language one I went down by two, but for the other ones I think I went up.”
Sources shared their opinions on MAP testing; some said that they disliked MAP testing, while others said they did. Rebekah shared, “I think it a slightly fun, slightly horrid way to find out your growth over a few months,” and Joan agreed. Maycie said how she hates it, Dawson Nelson agreed, saying, “I always thought it would be bad, but when I started doing it, it was not. Also, we have less time in class, so it's hard to complete the assignments.” Lia and Benjamin said it was okay but Lia said she would rather have it on paper because it hurts her eyes to look at the screen for so long.
The second MAP testing of the year didn't seem great or horrible. It seemed most of the students knew that it was important but also knew that it was stressful. The next MAP testing will be around April during the Alaska state test.
