Civics class travels to Eagle, Alaska

Updated: Sep 17

On September 5-6, the civics class traveled to Eagle to learn about its history. While driving, the civics class stopped in Chicken to have a bite. While they were in Chicken, Ms. Burnham talked about the old buildings there and gold mining. Then the class used a gold pan to find flakes of gold in the dirt.

When they arrived in Eagle, the class ate dinner, which was lasagna and noodles; for dessert, they had a chocolate cream pie. On the last day in Eagle, the civics class took a tour of Eagle and learned about how the town would have communicated back in the day - if they found gold in Eagle. After the tour, the class went to the store to gas up and left.

Many of the civics students had opinions about how the Eagle trip was for them.

Nadine Thomas, a sophomore, said, “Eagle was ok. The food was good, it was the favorite part of the trip. The ride to the Eagle was really boring and I got a headache.”

Waylon Nelson, a sophomore said, “It was fun. Didn't like the hiking. Staying at the school wasn't that bad. I was wrapped in a blanket on the gym floor… that hurt. My favorite part was probably staying in the school; it was really fun playing in the gym. The ride there was bumpy and loud but overall it was good.”

Dawson Nelson, a sophomore, said, “Eagle was fun regardless of some events. I liked it when we stopped at a 40-mile river and played with the rocks and took pictures. It was fun but I was getting squashed because I was in the middle of Joan and Rebekah. The lasagna was good but the milk was chunky.”

Joan Adkins, a sophomore, said, “It was fun and interesting to learn about all the history of Eagle. My favorite part about it was exploring Eagle. The food was way better than I expected.”

It sounds like the civics class had a good time in Eagle and especially loved the menu!
