Recently Hurricane Milton hit the coast of Florida, flooding and destroying hundreds of homes. Hurricane Milton, a category 3 hurricane, hit near Siesta Key, Florida on the night of October 9th, killing at least 24 people and leaving many injured. The hurricane caused flooding, tornadoes, and destroyed homes. Because of the hurricane, many families lost their belongings, so Tok decided to do a clothing drive to help the people who lost everything.
On October 24th, Tok School hosted the clothing drive! “What's a clothing drive?” you may ask. Well, it’s an event to donate clothes to people in need, like in Florida and on the south-eastern coast of the United States. People all around Tok donated clothes for the affected people. Not only are they getting new clothes, they are also getting specifically warm winter clothes and blankets for the cold winter season.
Deb Alsup, the head honcho of the operation, said “We had only a few people participate, but we ended up with about 6 big garbage bags of clothes and blankets.” She then added where the donated clothes went. ”These donations will go to Jake and Amanda Dyer's sister in North Carolina, who is collecting coats for the hurricane victims in North Carolina. She has collected over 1200 coats.” Lastly, she exclaimed what Amanda’s sister did with the donations. “The Cornerstone Youth Foundation is partnering with her to ship her whatever supplies we gathered from Tok.”
Thank you to the people that are helping with donating supplies and if you want to help go to the link below. Thank you everyone!
